

On Tuesday, October 24, 2023, a significant workshop on sanitation was held at the OPAH BASIC SCHOOL in the Greater Accra Region. This workshop aimed to educate attendees on the vital importance of proper hand washing, and it gathered a total of 120 participants.
The event was organized by Japanese volunteers, led by Mrs. Yasuko Nomura, in collaboration with the WF-Ghana team. It took place at the school, where an ultra-modern Toilet Facility had been constructed the previous year with the generous support of WF-Japan. The presence of the Japanese volunteers added a meaningful dimension to the event.
The warm welcome extended to the Japanese volunteers by the school’s headmistress, Mrs. Agnes Binipom, and her enthusiastic pupils was marked by local songs and dance, creating an atmosphere of cultural exchange and unity.The workshop specifically targeted 115 students ranging from Primary 6 to Junior High 3 levels.
The lecturers used visual aids to support their presentations, ensuring that the importance of proper hand washing was effectively communicated.
To conclude the workshop, two students were chosen to demonstrate what they had learned during the session, emphasizing practical application.As a token of appreciation and as a reminder of the event, all the participants were presented with face towels as souvenirs.Mrs. Yasuko Nomura and her team, in a heartwarming gesture, donated stationery and football jerseys to the headmistress as a token of their gratitude. In return, the headmistress also expressed her appreciation by presenting a citation to Mrs. Yasuko Nomura and her team, acknowledging their support through scholarships and the construction of the washroom facility.
This exchange of appreciation and recognition reinforced the strong bond between the volunteers and the school community.The event concluded with a visit by the Japanese sisters to the washroom facility built in their absence, and they also took photos with the scholarship students, symbolizing the positive impact of their support on the community.
The entire school community expressed their joy and gratitude for the visit, highlighting the significance of such educational initiatives and the lasting impact they create.
