On May 16, 2025, a significant and historic visit took place in Abuja, as a delegation from the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) Nigeria paid a courtesy call to Former President Goodluck Jonathan. This symbolic visit was led by the Regional Director of FFWPU-West Africa, Rev. George Ogurie, accompanied by Dr. George Ikpot, the Secretary General of UPF-Nigeria, and Rev. Imo Nkanta, the National Leader of FFWPU Nigeria.
The purpose of the visit was multi-faceted and deeply meaningful. First and foremost, the delegation presented a Letter of Congratulations from the UPF International Office, recognizing President Jonathan for his recent conferment of the Founders Sunhak Peace Award — a prestigious global honor that acknowledges his continued efforts in promoting peace, dialogue, and good governance in Africa and beyond.
Secondly, the UPF leaders shared important news regarding the cancellation of the proposed visit by Shin Chul Nim and Shin Heung Nim, along with other top FFWPU leaders, due to recent changes in Nigeria’s immigration policies. While this news was met with understanding, it also underscored the challenges of global religious diplomacy in today’s political landscape.
In a deeply respectful and warm moment, Rev. Ogurie presented a copy of the Holy Text Chambumo Gyeong (Chambumo Ron) to President Jonathan. The gesture symbolized not only appreciation but also a bridge of shared values between the UPF vision and the former president’s peace mission. The former president received the delegation graciously and with sincere interest, reaffirming his openness to interreligious dialogue and peace collaboration.
