On Wednesday, June 11, 2025, the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) Nigeria, in collaboration with the Peace Club of the Federal College of Education, Zuba, held a powerful strategic meeting at the Peace Embassy, Abuja. The gathering was focused on revitalizing the Peace and Character Education movement, with the aim of deepening its reach and impact across academic institutions in Nigeria.
This timely meeting brought together 18 dynamic participants, including some of the most distinguished minds and stakeholders in peace education. Present were:
- Rev. George Ogurie – UPF Regional Director for West Africa
- Dr. George Ikpot – Secretary General, UPF Nigeria
- Amb. Prof. Abdulmalik Yusuf – Representative of the Federal College of Education, Zuba
- Mr. Muhamed Musa – Faculty representative
- Sarr Kader – UPF staff member
- 13 active members of the Peace Club from the Federal College of Education, Zuba
The central theme of the day was re-energizing the Peace and Character Education initiative — a program designed to instill moral leadership, ethical responsibility, and global citizenship values in young people through academic frameworks.
During the session, Rev. George Ogurie delivered a compelling presentation on the vision of UPF for the development and integration of Peace and Character Education nationwide. He emphasized how youth empowerment and value-driven leadership are central to achieving long-term peace in Nigeria and beyond.
“Peace isn’t the absence of conflict; it’s the presence of justice, mutual respect, and education rooted in character,” Rev. Ogurie shared.
The students and faculty from the Zuba College showed deep interest and enthusiasm for the program’s potential, and concrete steps were discussed for expanding the Peace Club’s reach, improving structure, and developing a sustainable training module tailored to the local academic environment.
This meeting marked a renewed commitment by UPF Nigeria to work hand-in-hand with academic institutions and young leaders to build a more peaceful and morally upright Nigeria — one Peace Club at a time.
